Biblical Love

Father, tear apart the love I learned. Every selfish fire I’ve ever burned. Everything this broken heart has called love… If it isn’t Yours, let it return to dust. I called desire love. I called passion truth. I chased my feelings while abandoning You. Teach me the love that laid Heaven down. The love that wore a cross instead of a crown. Teach me patience… When I’m ready to leave. Teach me kindness… When I’m wounded deep. Teach me mercy… When my flesh wants more. Teach me to love… Like my Savior, Lord. Teach me Biblical love. Not the love this world has made. Write Your heart upon my own. Wash my selfishness away. If love is patient… make me wait. If love is kind… then make me grace. If love keeps no record of wrong… Then let forgiveness fill this place. Lord, confront the pride that hides in me. The part that still wants love to serve me. Teach me covenant instead of comfort. Teach me sacrifice before desire. Love protects when no one’s watching. Love believes when hope grows thin. Love rejoices in the truth… So expose every lie within. Don’t let my daughters learn love from my failures. Let them see Christ through Your favor. Redeem the years I cannot restore. Make my ceiling… become their floor. Love… isn’t proud. Love… doesn’t boast. Love… isn’t selfish. Love… stays close. Love… bears all things. Love… hopes always. Lord… write that love… Inside of me. Though I speak with every tongue… Without Your love… I’m only noise. Though I move the highest mountain… Without Your love… I’ve missed Your voice. Though I give away everything… Without Your heart… I’ve gained nothing. So give me… Your heart. Teach me Biblical love. Patient through the longest night. Kind when kindness costs me everything. Faithful when I lose the fight. Love that serves. Love that stays. Love that walks the narrow way. Until my wife… my children… strangers… See Jesus more than they see me. Father, When people remember my life… Don’t let them remember… The man who failed to love. Let them remember: The God, Who taught him how.
