Believe Her Now

I was not safe enough then, I can say that in the light, missed too much smoke while I fought through my own night. I thought working meant love, thought surviving meant strength, while the distance between us kept learning my name. She had reasons to wonder what I would do, reasons to hide what I should have heard true. I cannot change the years, cannot rewrite how, but I can stop being deaf and believe her now.
